Sustainability

A commitment to the sea

A sustainable, high-quality supply is the foundation of our purchasing policy. From El Cocal, Puntarenas, we choose every supplier for their responsible handling of the resource, and we back what we dispatch with recognised international certifications. Every seal on this page corresponds to a real product in our catalog.

Puntarenas is a fishing port, and living off the sea teaches a simple truth: the resource only keeps giving if it is looked after. That's why at Delimar we separate two commitments that complement each other. The first is responsible origin: how each species is caught or farmed. The second is food safety: how it is processed, how the cold chain is maintained and how it is packed, from landing to customer.

For origin we work with MSC certified wild capture and with aquaculture under BAP, ASC and GlobalG.A.P., plus trout verified free of antibiotics. For food safety, our plant operates with FSSC 22000 and BRC certifications and a HACCP system across the whole operation. None of these acronyms is decorative: they are real audits over real lots.

Frequently asked questions

About our certifications

What does MSC certification mean?
MSC (Marine Stewardship Council) certification confirms that a product comes from wild-capture fisheries with healthy stocks, responsible fishing gear and traceability from the boat. At Delimar it backs our wild-caught tuna.
What is BAP certification?
BAP (Best Aquaculture Practices) certifies aquaculture farms audited on their environmental performance, animal welfare and community impact. It backs our farmed tilapia, basa and Chilean mussel.
What is the difference between ASC and GlobalG.A.P.?
The ASC (Aquaculture Stewardship Council) is the most demanding standard for responsible aquaculture and backs our clams and blue mussel. GlobalG.A.P. certifies good farming practices and assigns a GGN number that traces the origin farm by farm, applied across our whole trout line.
Is Delimar's trout raised with antibiotics?
No. Our trout is verified under NSF Free Antibiotics, antibiotic-free rearing confirmed by independent audits.
What food-safety certifications does Delimar hold?
Our plant operates a food-safety management system certified to FSSC 22000, recognised by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI); processes audited under the BRC global standard; and a HACCP system of hazard analysis and critical control points across the whole cold chain, from landing to final packing.
